Montana

The resort was the vision of NBC News anchorman Chet Huntley, a Montana native. Big Sky opened in December 1973 with a main base area at an elevation of 7,510 ft (2,289 m) above sea level on the eastern face of Lone Mountain. In the fall of 1995, Big Sky gained prominence with the installation of the Lone Peak Tram, built to take expert skiers to the summit of Lone Mountain at 11,166 ft (3,403 m) to copious extreme treeless terrain. The Shedhorn double chair was also part of this expansion, installed in 1995 on the lower south face of Lone Mountain. Like a village plaza, the 165-acre walking area is surrounded by spectacular 11,000 foot snow-capped peaks. Here you’ll never feel rushed, and with the variety of shops and services, the Town Center provides the “Downtown” of this alpine community…a central place bordered by expansive, snowy meadows and dramatic peaks. Let Snow Sport book the perfect Big Sky Lodging from budget and chain hotels, private lodges or hybrid units that combine the amenities of a condominium with the service of a hotel. The whole family can enjoy the comfort of a home-away-from-home. Select from cabins in the woods, along the river or slopes or roomy mountain homes, all fully-furnished. When guests want the convenience condominiums offer, let Snow Sport showcase this amazing assortment of units ranging from studios to spacious penthouses. Luxurious lodging accommodations are also available with a modern edge, lavish touches, amenities and pristine mountain views.
The third largest ski resort in the United States, Big Sky offers spectacular views you won't soon forget. Expert and advanced terrain abounds, but still plenty of runs for the intermediate and beginning skier. In addition to fantastic skiing, Big Sky offers zip-line and snowshoe tours, a bungee trampoline and daily shuttles to Yellowstone National Park.
